Batman LEGOs
The LEGO Group has, in recent years, broken away from its policy of building LEGO sets around its own themes to building LEGO sets from already licensed themes. The first example of this was the release of LEGO themes built around the Star Wars films. A more recent example is the release of a Batman theme in 2006. The strategy of using an already licensed theme gives the LEGO Group to expand it’s market into an already existing fanbase. It is also a good idea for the licensed theme as many LEGO fans can potentially become a fan of the already existing theme. It’s a win win!
Recently, many fans of LEGO building block sets have been enjoying the Batman themed LEGO sets. Though there have not been very many Batman sets released to date, the Batman theme of LEGO sets has been experiencing increased popularity thanks to the release of the Dark Knight and it’s popularity. The LEGO Group tends to only release any particular LEGO set for a short period of time so sometimes this results in a high-demand, short-supply scenario that can drive up prices. This has been the case for Batman LEGO sets in particular as they are just now gaining in popularity.
One of the more rare Batman LEGO Sets is the Arkham Asylum set. This set is particularly significant because it has seven Batman LEGO Mini figures. A few of these figures (such as Poison Ivy) are exclusive to this LEGO set so for the avid Batman LEGO collector it is a must. The problem with that is that since it’s so rare, the price for this LEGO set is through the roof! Some eBay auctions for this Batman set can go for as much as $300 USD! For many collectors, this rules out collecting every single Batman LEGO Set and every Batman mini figure.
With the cost of some of the more rare Batman LEGO Sets, some collectors stick with simply trying to get their hands on all of the Batman LEGO minifigures. This can be much easier to do with the use of auction sites, such as eBay.
Many times you will find that eBay sellers are not good at spotting LEGO minifigs that are rare or expensive. You can also ask for more pictures from the seller if the pics taken do not show any close ups of the lot of LEGOs for sale.
Being a collector of Batman LEGOs is a great pastime. Many LEGO collectors have a favorite theme they usually focus their collecting on and one of my favorites is the Batman LEGO theme because of how fun Batman is.
Peter enjoys collecting Batman LEGO systems and enjoys his Batman LEGO minifigs even more.
